Hello my dears! I took a short vacation with the hubby to Bangkok, Thailand last week… and had such a decadent time shopping & dining that I’m finding it hard to get back to the swing of things. It has been more than 2 years since we took a trip together, and I loved it […]

This Fall, SUQQU has departed from its usual classical looks, and brought us something completely different. Firstly, if you thought their quint-in-a-quad (for example EX-17) palettes were interesting, SUQQU has managed to one-up us with an oct (octuple? octet?)! In a simple compact that would normally have housed 4-5 shades, EX-21 gives us 8 whopping […]

SUQQU surprised fans this Fall when it launched not only a very unique palette consisting of 4 split pans (Blend Color Eyeshadow EX-21 reviewed here), but also a brand new trio Eye Color Palette which is a permanent addition to the line-up. I was in Bangkok recently (read about my trip here), and couldn’t resist […]

Suqqu really surprised me this year… it is not often that we find a beauty company turning out something new every season. I’m not just talking about new color palettes, but actual new products and formulas. Last Summer we saw that ethereal semi-transparent shimmer coat in Ex-20 Natsubotan; last Fall was the double whammy of […]

Once in awhile, an angel appears in my life, and convinces me that there are selfless, sweet people out there in the world. With all the trolls residing on social media these days, I am amazed whenever I meet somebody who is willing to extend a genuine hand of friendship… and that is how this SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-01 Benikakesora came into my possession.
SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-01 Benikakesora is 1 of 2 limited edition eyeshadow trio palettes for Summer 2015. Following in the success of last Fall 2014’s Eye Color Palette trios (3 of them, all permanent – swatches here), SUQQU has turned to this slimmer and slightly more affordable format for this season. And as is traditional with its Spring-Summer special releases, Benikakesora comes in a crisp white casing.
I was see-sawing between Benikakesora and its other limited edition sister EX-02 Yosaizora, and for a moment I wanted both, but then sanity prevailed, and I decided on this because it seemed the most unique for my current state of over-abundance.
The swatches from left to right are:
The plum in Benikakoiij is a nicely balanced purple with just a dash of red in the base and does not lean too brown. Of the comparable shades I pulled up, Dior Trafalgar has the possibility of becoming closest by combining the deep burgundy-brown and red shades in the palette together.
And here is how Benikakesora looks on me, all layered together.
And in my usual half-half manner of application… I first dusted the shimmery white in a thin layer across my entire lid, then I applied the coppery-plum on the inner 2/3 of the lid. Thereafter, I dabbed on the plum on the outer third, and finished with another dab of shimmery white on the center of my lids just for some pop. Lined top and bottom lash lines with black liner, and finished with a dash of shimmery white on the inner third of my lower lash line to brighten.

Overall, I’m really fond of SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-01 Benikakesora, and I’m still ogling at EX-02 Yosaizora [check it out on Sara’s blog here]. The colors are soft, typical of SUQQU, though something to keep in mind if you typical prefer high intensity, bold colors; but perfect for the sunny months ahead. This is a great handy palette for a weekend trip, day looks where you want to look crisp and well-heeled. Feel free to wear just the peach or plum shades on their own with just a dash of white shimmer, smoke out with a darkening base, etc.

I am constantly impressed by SUQQU’s ability to keep us all interested and excited with new innovative products season after season. And this Fall 2015, SUQQU has released 2 limited edition Cheek & Face Colour Palettes… and I’m very grateful to a dear friend in Japan for helping me pick up this EX-02.
SUQQU Cheek & Face Colour Palette EX-02 consists of a warm-toned coral pink blush with a satin finish and sparse micro-shimmers, and a very pale pink illuminating face powder with a slight sheerness to it. The 2 powders are arranged in a round palette with the cheek colour comprising a smaller segment within the circle, and the 2 powders are not separated from each other. If it pleases, you are free to swirl a brush between the 2 powders and use them on the cheeks and high points of the face in place of a highlighter.
Of course, depending on what proportion of the more pigmented cheek shade and the sheerer face powder you mix, the combined outcome could vary. In my case, I swirled between the 2 equally and the outcome is a luminous sheer pinky powder, perfect for highlighting.
The palette comes in a two-tier format – upon opening the first tier is a tray containing a rather wide, flattened angle brush. As far as brushes go, this feels very soft and smooth against my skin, certainly one of the best brushes that ever came included in any palettes. However, it is a bit too wide and too flat for applying colour to my cheeks. It does work very well for dusting powder all over the face though!
For the look above, I’m wearing the cheek colour on my cheeks, and then I swirled the 2 shades together and dusted it with an angled powder brush along my cheek bones. I also swept what was left on my brush down my nose ridge and on my forehead. Lastly, I took a fluffy powder brush and dusted the face colour very lightly all over my face.
In general, Japanese blushes tend to be very softly pigmented and not very intense when applied. So I was fully prepared for the worst, and was happy to find this SUQQU Cheek & Face Colour EX-02 Palette to be relatively easy to work with. It is in no way as pigmented as what we are used to getting from Western brands, but it is far better than THREE [reviewed here] and even Addiction [reviewed here]. The size of the segment is also reasonable to work with – I swirl this round cheek brush a couple of times in the cheek powder and apply to my cheeks. I also love the natural lit-from-within effect that results from layering the face powder on top of the cheek shade. Used on its own though, I’m not completely in awe of the effect of the face powder. It does help to set makeup without drying out my skin and taking away the glow. On the other hand, the effect is not as luminous as Guerlain meteorites though much handier for carrying around.
SUQQU Cheek & Face Colour Palette is limited edition, so do check it out soon if you are interested. My friend Sara has reviewed the EX-01 palette here if you need help choosing between the 2!

In addition to the lovely Cheek & Face Color Palettes [Ex-02 reviewed here], SUQQU has also released 3 new Blend Color Eyeshadow Palettes. The new palettes take an inverse spin on the format that SUQQU released last Holiday 2014 [Ex-23 reviewed here]… they feature 3 powder shades and 1 cream base shade. Instead of the darkest shade being the cream, these new Fall 2015 palettes feature a pale cream base. Today, I’d like to show you SUQQU Blend Color Eyeshadow #20 Kaoribara.
SUQQU Blend Color Eyeshadow 20 Kaoribara is 1 of 3 new palettes released this season, and this one is permanent. It features 3 powder shades and 1 cream eyeshadow (lower right of palette). The darkest shade on the lower left corner of the palette also bears the letters SUQQU printed on the surface, which unfortunately goes away with the first swipe though you may try to preserve it by using the sides first.
Here is another look from another angle:
If you look closely, you will be able to see that all 4 shades (including the cream shade) contain some level of shimmers. However, as with all SUQQU shades, these shimmers are all incredibly fine and formulated in a way that is endlessly elegant.
The shades (swatched above from left to right) are:
When I started swatching Kaoribara, it suddenly occurred to me that it resembled Benikakesora from last season [reviewed here]. It hadn’t immediately seemed that way, and when you place the 2 palettes next to each other, they appear quite different. But I decided to swatch them side-by-side anyway:
Of course, Benikakesora comprised only of 3 powder shades, not a quad with a cream shade like Kaoribara. However, when I swatched them side-by-side, the similarities in their color composition suddenly comes to light. Benikakesora is brighter, cooler in tone than Kaoribara, but the white and peach shades are close enough. There isn’t a lilac in Benikakesora, but if you layer all 3 shades together (right-most swatch above), you can get something close enough. Benikakesora was limited edition, so if you missed it, Kaoribara may be something to consider.
For the eye look above, I first applied the cream ivory shade all over my lid as a base. Thereafter I applied the golden peach shade all over, focusing more on the inner half of my lid. Next, I applied the silvery lilac along my lash line, blending upwards to about mid-lid. Finally I added the burgundy to my outer corner, again blending upwards and outwards. Because the look is somewhat soft and ambiguous, I defined my lash line with a black liquid liner, winging outwards slightly, before adding mascara.
You have already seen the full look, but I’m including it here again to put the look in context.
In the look above, I’m also wearing SUQQU Cheek & Face Color Ex-02 which was reviewed last week here.
Overall, Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow 20 Kaoribara offers a very pretty, soft alternative to the dramatic hues typical seen this time of the year. The colors are all wearable on a daily basis, including that “red” which pulls more purple on me. My friend Sara was able to bring out the red more with the addition of SUQQU’s new Gel Eyeliner Pencil Ex-01 Bordeaux, check out her eye looks here.

I have a few more Holiday 2015 collection posts to get through before we start counting down to Christmas, and today I’d like to show you my pick from SUQQU Holiday 2015! As is typical with Japanese brands, SUQQU releases special limited edition coffers each year for the holiday season, and for the past years the coffers had consisted of a deluxe sized facial cleanser and pouch. After collecting 2 of those, I am glad that this year’s coffrets feature a nail polish remover instead of facial cleanser! It is a pity though that international postal services seem to enjoy collecting nail polish removers as much as I do, so my set is lacking that for now. Nonetheless, I’m excited to show you the stunning Eye Color Palette in EX-03 碧茶織 Aosaori and Gel Eyeliner Pencil in EX-02!
This year, SUQQU offers us 2 Makeup Kits that are quite similar except for the Eye Color Palette, and the pouch looks similar though in different colors to match the palettes. What caught my eye (as well as most others!) was the very unique 2-tone swirling design on all 3 shades of the palette, and the textured weave pattern on the surface.
SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-03 comes in the 3-color eyeshadow palette format that we first saw in FW2014 [read here], and more recently in Summer 2015 [read here]. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am not terribly in love with SUQQU Eye Color Palette #03 Aurori which I had picked up last year, and the purple and blue shades in Aurori resemble the swirled combination in Aosaori. That naturally made me rather nervous, but if there’s anybody worth giving a second chance to, that’ll be SUQQU.
The swatches above were taken by swirling indiscriminately across the shades within each pan. As you can see, SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-03 comprises of:
Here is another completely blurred out shot taken under sunlight to show you the gorgeous complex shimmers in all their glory!
I have also included a swatch of the Gel Eyeliner Pencil in EX-02, and as you can see, it is a gorgeous blackened blue with light blue shimmers. This is a brand new product that was recently launched by SUQQU, so I was very happy to see it featured in this year’s Holiday coffrets! The shade is the same across both the Makeup Kits though! I love the slim, twist-up design of the eyeliner, although you should note that this is one of those that only twists up and doesn’t turn back down!
And here is a simple eye look I created by simply layering all 3 shades one on top of the other:
To add more definition to my eye, I also lined the outer corner of my upper and lower lash lines with the Gel Eyeliner Pencil. This is not particularly smooth, but certainly very pigmented. It takes only a few seconds to dry, and once it dries it stays put, so it is important to work fast if you plan on blending it out. The color reminds me of SUQQU Creamy Eyeliner #03 Ruby Navy [reviewed here], but it does not apply as smoothly nor as pigmented.
Since SUQQU gave us such a pretty palette with contrasting shades distinctly separated within the pans, I couldn’t stop myself from trying to pick up the various shades! Though their relative sizes are small, the shades are quite pigmented even by Japanese standards, and using Surratt’s Artistique Classic Eyeshadow Brush in Medium, I was able to pick up the shades fairly easily and apply them.
You had actually already seen the resultant eye looks that I created using the middle and bottom pans in a recent post, but let me show them to you here and explain a little more.
Using the 2 shades in the middle pan, I first applied the darker brown along the lower half of my lid along the lash line and blending upwards. I then added the lighter golden brown shade above that blending towards my natural crease. Thereafter, I dabbed more of the darker brown to my outer corner, and also blended it along my lower lash line. To finish, I popped a wee bit of the gold from the top pan on the middle of my lid and also in my inner corner.
Using the shades from the bottom pan, I first applied the purple shade on the inner half of my lid followed by the blue on the outer half. Blended the 2 shades together, and finished by lining my bottom lash line with the blue shade ending with a pop of gold from the top pan on my inner corner. I was surprised by how the resultant look resembled Chanel’s Tisse Gabrielle Les 4 Ombres, though Aosaori is cleaner and crisper on my lids.
Overall, SUQQU Eye Color Palette EX-03 Aosaori is a very interesting palette that I find myself reaching for on a daily basis now. The beauty of these SUQQU palettes really is how they’re designed to be simply worn by layering all the shades together, no brains needed! And a light wash is all that is required to get a very soft, diffused look appropriate for all day wear. The fun of this palette though, is of course the ability to pick up the separate shades at will and play around with them!
Before I go, I’d like to share the full look in context based on the very 1st eye look shown above:
Hope your week is going well!
